Botox is an injectable cosmetic treatment designed to relax muscle activity and reduce lines and wrinkles on the face. Botox will relax these muscles which cause the unwanted facial expressions resulting in fewer lines and wrinkles. Botox is a very common in office cosmetic procedure that is also FDA approved.
Botox is effective for treating both existing wrinkles and preventing new ones. The most common areas for treatment are the forehead, the frown lines between the eyebrows called the glabella, and the lines along the sides of the eyes called the crow’s feet.
The cost of Botox will vary depending on how many areas are treated and the number of units injected. While an average cost of treatment is around $500, we customize each treatment depending on your goals during your consultation appointment.
Botox is best administered by an experienced provider with skill, knowledge and precision. A provider using proper techniques will help to ensure the best result. At Houck Dermatology, we strive to deliver outstanding outcomes for each patient based on their concerns.
After receiving your Botox injections, you can resume most of your daily activities. It is best to avoid strenuous activities and to not lie down for at least 4 hours after treatment to help prevent Botox migration to unintended areas of your face. It is also recommended to avoid facial massages or facial rubbing for at least 48 hours after treatment.
The results of Botox are usually noticeable within a few days but it usually takes about 2 weeks to notice the full result. The results tend to last between 3-6 months requiring patients to receive 2 or 3 treatments a year to maintain results.
The common side effects of Botox include minor bruising and redness which can be treated with pressure and ice immediately after the injections. Other less common side effects include eyelid drooping, uneven smile and uneven eyebrows.
Botox is not recommended while pregnant or breastfeeding. Botox is not indicated for patients with neuromuscular conditions including Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), Myasthenia Gravis, and Lambert-Eaton Syndrome.
Houck Dermatology strives to make each patient feel comfortable and answer any questions you may have. We look forward to helping you achieve your goals. If you decide Botox is right for you, we will make every effort to give you the best result possible.
